Our need for the Gospel

I Sin

I confess to God and ask His mercy

God blames my guilt on Jesus

Jesus takes my punishment (once for all on Good Friday)

God credits me with Jesus' righteousness and holiness

God declares me forgiven

Objective Justification - the Scriptural teaching that Christ provides forgiveness for the sins of the whole world (Koehler p 76-77)

What are good works?

(1) conform to God's Law

(2) Done out of love for God (not just what you do, but why you do it)

Forgiveness does not mean freedom to do what we want

Although good works must be present in our lives, they cannot save us or earn God's favor, our faith must be in Christ's redemption!
